Project Three: Genre Translation Blog Post

Project Type: Genre Translation

Project Active From: March 2025 to April 2025

Location: George Mason University, Advanced Composition course (Spring 2025)

This project, titled "Embracing Intercultural Teaching: Critically Understanding Culture & Enriching Language Learning" intends to demonstrate effective synthesis and transcription of information from one genre/literary form into another; in this case, academic research translated into a blog post. The article tackles the subject of interculturality and how it can both support and detract from language education. The project description is as follows:

"Students will select a recently published peer-reviewed article that offers a compelling contribution to a current conversation in their discipline, a public audience who would be interested in the article’s findings, and a popular periodical/site that reaches that audience. They will analyze their public audience to determine what information to convey (and how), will analyze samples of article translations from their periodical/site to determine genre expectations (regarding structure, language, and reference), and will then compose a rhetorically-aware public translation of the scholarly article."
